Bloody WoodHow can this world? I fear it can.

In the interim: an opera.

Killsonic, the 30+ piece orchestral fingerbang, has been commissioned by the Roy and Edna Disney/Cal Arts Theater (REDCAT) to present an excerpt from our epic long in the making, Tongues Bloody Tongues. The Moobiest of Moobaus, Joseph Tepperman, has penned this bizarre encounter between history and post-history, love and post-love, Iraq and post-Babylon.

In addition to wailing several words in the opera (I portray Kinahan Cornwallis, colleague and once-love of Gertrude Bell), I am also the art director. It is a loving labor. I have a crew of genius friends helping me: Eddika Organista, Rafael Esparza and Jason Savvy. An Open Letter to Roman PolanskiDear Mr. Polanski:

You must be busier than ever these days, so I will be totes brief.

This past weekend, more than 50 of my dearest friends and I gathered at a loft space in Downtown L.A. We drank, we gabbed, we drank some more. And for 3 hours, about 20 of us performed for each other visual and audio works based on your films, including "Chinatown", "The Tenant", "Fearless Vampire Killers", "The Pianist", "Repulsion" and "Rosemary's Baby". Sounds, music and footage from these films were freely incorporated in our works. We asked everyone who attended to donate $10 each. At the end of the evening, the money from the door was counted, and it totaled $300! Huzzah! Naturally, we were immediately tempted to go spend it all on coke and sex with underage whores. However, we had already promoted the event as a fundraiser for RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network), and rather than risk the lynching of a lifetime from all manner of feminists and angry fags, we instead stuck to our promise to donate these funds to an organization that commits to supporting victims of sexual assault and bringing their attackers to justice. We all slept much better that night, I'm sure.

So...to sum it up: we made money off your films to help rape victims.

Keep the hits coming, Mr. Polanski. We'll be waiting.

Respectfully yours,

Dorian WoodDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-12554725138781918782010-02-23T17:47:00.000-08:002010-02-23T18:47:59.594-08:00XXIII. UntitledOn February 20, 2010, the beautiful Dino Dinco curated GUTTED, a performance-focused event for Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions (LACE). Over 20 artists and 70 collaborators presented work on this evening. I, along with 9 collaborators, presented a 5-hour piece, "Untitled".

For the duration of the piece, I sat on a throne, naked, drinking lots of water and pissing into 8 decorated bottles. Each bottle was then hung up on its corresponding rope, 8 strands dangling from the center of the room. Buckets--lined with pie tins--were then placed under each bottle. It is important to note that 7 beautiful, elegantly-dressed women handled these bottles and provided me with water throughout the evening.

We closed the evening with a music performance. Two horns filled the room with a demented fanfare. I rose from my throne, and the ladies lined up in front of me. One of the ladies then proceeded to release the piss from each bottle into the buckets by yanking on dangling pieces of red string attached to each nozzle. The ladies sang along to the collective sound of piss hitting tin. A call-and-response performance piece that culminated in a cacophonous orgy of horns, voices and stray dripping.

Photos by Jason Savvy:

"Untitled" collaborators:

Alissa Kueker
Arianna Joelle
Daddy Harmon
Demonika Darkly
Dick Whitman
Lenora Claire
Leora Saul
Bryan Diaz
Michael Anthony Ibarra

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-87830399916343664942010-01-15T10:39:00.000-08:002010-01-26T20:48:40.573-08:00XXII. A Better Sweater

Josie, January, 2010

I had a little breakdown in Leesburg, VA. My friend and my love were there to help peel off the leeches I kept taping to my flesh. As I mentioned in my previous entry, I cried and cried, and it eventually grew on me. I never stopped drawing, never stopped humming new songs in my head. I never just shut down. It was all done through walls of tears and dog hair. And shakes. Poor hygiene. Ridiculous highs. Love all around me like pampering snow. And it fell overnight. And I freaked. Got back to L.A. Freaked out some more.

I became a memory of a friend. I stayed home, still drawing. And drawing. Cans of gingered ale erecting templed walls of comfort. My love, my special, special one, warm by my side: such an unbelievable mind controlled by a God-powered heart. Who would want to leave? Who would want to prance around in the sun? This was a moment to capture and rub against the gums, fast brutally fast, like masturbating myself to bits. Weeks and weeks of mid-change. Blankets to roll around in. Flannel sheets. More gingered ale. More love. More pens. But what about music? No music. I enjoyed being a tourist, casually strolling and occasionally raising an eyebrow to bolkas and black pigs, all the while emptying my bowels of a slimy, dead child who no longer looked like me. This was the spa treatment/Burning Man I could never afford/never wanted to afford. I splurged, I purged, amen.

Whew.

February, O February...you are my January! It's unreal how mighty wonderful February is going to be. Wanna see what I mean? I hope you do. :-)

1. ABRAHAM LINCOLN'S BIG GAY VALENTINE BASH @ HIGHWAYS PERFORMANCE SPACE on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13: The beautiful peeps at Highways deserve all manner of riches. For decades, they have nurtured and presented works with heart, guts and fluids. I am forever grateful to artistic director Leo Garcia and his army of fearless creators for giving me my first shots at avant-garde. On this special evening (a benefit for Highways), I will be performing a piece entitled "In Heaven". A sonic fondling, if you will. If you are interested in being fondled, and you live in Los Angeles, click here for more information.

2. GUTTED: LACE'S ANNUAL WINTER BENEFIT @ LACE on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 20: This one is being curated by my dear friend Dino Dinco. I met Dino eons ago at a bar. Maybe 2 bars. I don't remember. I knew he was some sort of artist, and I think he suspected the same of me. Several times, he'd be on one side of the bar, in a knitted panda mask (before all the hipstards were wearing them), and I'd be drunkenly gabba-gabba with my friends on the other side, and we would constantly be aware of each other, like two hot gargoyles. Years later, he curated a wonderful show in which I did Killsonic's "Black Pig" with Ryan Heffington's dancers. Then he directed a gorgeous video for "Pianos and Bricks". And now he has asked me to perform at a fundraiser for Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions. I can't say much about my performance, except that it involves many pretty ladies. Click here for more information.

3. REDWOOD BAR with MARK GROWDEN on WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 24: SF-based music mastermind Mark Growden is quite a presence on stage. Sweat and enormous talent flow through and from him like plumes of heavenly smoke. He's a lovely man, and he has invited me to share the evening with him as part of his month-long residency. Songs of new and old. I'll be accompanied by friends. Click here for more information.

4. REPULSIONS: CELEBRATING 55 YEARS OF CINEMA @ GALLERY 2023 on SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27: This is my first voyage into curatorial waters, in that I will only be curating this event, and not performing. But please, take note: there will be 14 extremely gifted artists presenting new, multimedia works based on the films of a true Hollywood legend. Which one? Who could it be? Shall I lay out a red carpet of delicious hints? I will do no such thing. You see, all funds received at the door will go to RAINN (Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network), and frankly, if I tell you who we're honoring on this evening, well...some fucktard in Hollywood will run and tell his cigar-sucking henchmen to shut us down and make sure that RAINN don't get a single cent for all the wonderful services they provide to survivors of rape, abuse and incest. You wanna be nice? Wanna experience an evening like no other? Click here for more information.

HOLY MOTHERFUCK, what a long blog entry! Sorry.

Tour-wise, there's also a chunk happening. This spring: New York, San Francisco, Paris, London, Stockholm, Berlin and Barcelona. More dates to be announced on my website. Take a peek whenever you feel like it. I'll also be introducing a new Art section on my website very very soon, where you will be able to purchase reasonably-priced original art created by my little brown fingers.

Oh yeah...and regarding Rattle Rattle: still moving forward! I'm working on arrangements. The songs are written. I performed several of them in '09. More will be performed in the following months. And yes yes YES...the whole fucking bitch will be released this year. However, the search for funds to get it off the ground is ongoing. If you want a taste of what Rattle Rattle will be like, check out Black Pig Suite. It's only $5, and you can download it almost immediately right here. You'll be helping massively with the funds needed to make Rattle Rattle possible, and you can get your scream on in the last song on the EP, "Pigfeed Blues". Crank it up and scream yourself into a stupor. FTW. :-)

So yeah...between the radical performances and non-stop drawing, I still have my head and heart, right where they belong. Thanks a bunch, God. Fo sho.

Totes love, my friends.

XOXOXOXOXO

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-73158053842180754142009-12-29T20:25:00.000-08:002009-12-29T21:26:08.419-08:00XXI. I'll be performing it along with many of my friends wielding several shiny instruments. This is a fund-raising event, to help yours and his musician friends get to France and the UK in November (more details on this tour soon, my lovelies overseas). Gallery 2023 is where it lands, belly first, chubby hooves tickling you where you're raw from crying. I am thrilled and honored to be presenting a piece created in collaboration with my good fdend, <a href="http://myspace.com/mooeymoobau"target="_blank">Joseph Tepperman, he who holds the key to all blessed creations Moobautastic. As I am immediately inclined to reveal the details of our piece, I can only say that it involves one very large breast. Yeeeeyaaah!

It all begins at 5pm, and goes on till 10pm. Ah...the workout of a lifetime.

Last time--November, 2008--Killsonic did approximately 15 shows in 5 days. Subways, streets, clubs, Central Park, City Hall, Union Square...running up and down subway stairs to catch up to the next explosive moment. I'm sure I dropped about 10 lbs in the process. All manner of sweat rashes were gained. And the spirit was well-fed. This time around, a wiser, thicker, meaner, nastier Killsonic land their gorgeous fists all over New York. You can keep up with the insanity...on TWITTER! Follow us around on twitter.com/killsonic!

I'm also doing a solo show on Wednesday, 9/9/09, 9PM (no joke) along with the beautiful kids of El-Haru Kuroi and Petrojvic Blasting Company, at Trophy Bar, 351 Broadway, in wondrous, fantastic Brooklyn. I promise to save the juicy meat for this one. :-)

Gotta go pack now. Possibly shower.

If you're in NYC, I hope to see you.

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-38310271615918920862009-08-22T17:47:00.000-07:002009-08-22T18:13:35.111-07:00XVI. Chewin' GarganchI traveled up to San Francisco last week for a performance at Homo A Gogo. Some of the kids played with me (Leah, Corwin, Savvy, Aerie and Frank), and Josie sold some of the Black Pig prints and BOLKA CDs out at the merch table. Lovely peeps, lovely time. Hung out with Miguel as well. Miguel Arias: bearded, with powers. Check out his art here.

On the drive back, the kids were rowdy and full of iPod thirst, while the missus and I kept chill in the front. About 2 hours out of SF, some of us needed to pee, so we stopped at a rest area. I felt shitsy that we didn't get to film some outdoor performances while in SF (bad planning, good weed), so we made the most out of this pee stop, and my low camera battery.

Damn thing kept shutting off! I sneaked into the maintenance area and charged the battery in there for about 10 minutes (FYI, there are no public power outlets ANYWHERE in a rest area...or at least not at this one). It allowed for the capturing of two beautiful performances by two beautiful friends.

Red Maids is the prize child of Michael Corwin:

princessFrank, he of Masterslave and Killsonic glories:

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-90171396847635594402009-07-22T20:09:00.000-07:002009-07-22T20:45:03.244-07:00XV. God bless that beautiful man. <a href="http://gallery2023.com/blog/"target="_blank">Tommy Mose Abbott was the perfect host/collaborator, and everyone in attendance...just perfect.

The limited-edition Black Pig Suite poster will soon be available on Dorianwood.com.

The Black Pig Suite EP, however, eagerly awaits the click of your mouse!

Note the low, recession-flavored price of $3.99! For the price of 4 Jack in the Box tacos, you can own the Pig. I do make a super humble, super kind request to you, though: if you would like to share it with those you love (or those you love to be a pig with), please take a quick moment to direct them to Dorianwood.com, rather than e-mailing/uploading them the Black Pig. Yes, it's fun to share. People like you more when you share. But rest assured that I would LOVE you LONGTIME if you helped me recuperate the costs of conceiving, incubating and birthing the Black Pig. Thanks. :-)

Soooo many fun, horrific things are coming up. Thank you for listening and not running blindly through the halls.

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-65322370200618279102009-07-08T19:56:00.000-07:002009-07-22T20:08:33.356-07:00XIV. His Royal Highness, The Black Pig

I am an excited little ham.

A few months ago, 16 of my friends and I gathered in a studio to record Black Pig Suite: an elegant nightmare in 4 parts. On July 18, the big black thing enters the world, buck-naked and ready for blood. I'm very happy with this Black Pig.

Note: I composed a piece for Killsonic entitled "Black Pig". Two different pigs, both with the same hunger. For blood, again.

The purpose of recording Black Pig Suite: MONEY. Oh dear, how awful. No, really. Money. You see...the four songs that comprise the Suite are children of a large, as-yet unborn mother known as Rattle Rattle. I've been working on the Rattle Rattle songs for a hair over a year now. They total 22 (so far), and they are an angry bunch begging to be coddled by all manner of brass, bellows and instruments of electric persuasion. Massive wrath, with a quiet stare. The lifting of an eyebrow curved over the blindness of the fist. I am blessed to have with me an army of the most gifted musicians in the world (in the WORLD), and God love them for contributing their precious time and energy to Black Pig Suite. God, they're great. And they deserve to be paid.

The economy, the economy, the economy...yes, we're all struggling to stay afloat (some more than others). Is it insane for me to want to lock up 20 musicians in a house for a week and crank out the sweetest, loudest, strangest music this side of Heaven? Perhaps. Is it insane for me to want to make sure they are rightfully compensated? Fuck no. I'm not asking for P. Diddy's riches. I just want my peeps to be able to handle their business after doing what they love.

This is true indie, my friends. I'm reaching out to good, passionate people out there who would be capable of investing in a labor of love. No illicit means. Seriously. My heart and balls out on the table. I guarantee a decent return, and best of all, a work of brutal honesty and epic bliss. And many, many, many shows. :-)

You can preview Black Pig Suite on my MySpace or Facebook. My friends and I are very proud of it. When the Pig arrives next week, we hope you love it as much as we do.

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-56053828144470566802009-06-11T19:59:00.000-07:002009-06-11T20:38:08.641-07:00XIII. Mean, Dirty Shoes

Got a new laptop. It's bright and clean. It plays Bjork live songs quite nicely.

Why am I so fucking angry all the time? Everything sucks and stuff! I mean, money...hard to hold onto, man...yeah...so, soooo hard! And bills, gotta be paid...stupid groceries. Ugh. There's fat in the air, MAN! I'm clogging my arteries just by walking out the front door. Dumb shit, dumb.

But no, really. I hold on tight to this opportunity to unleash fucking fury like bad molasses into a brand new garbage disposal. This opportunity, sitting comfy on my face, at 34. I want to stay angry at the hypocrisy of people. Men and women of many genders out there are told they are undeserving of the love they feel. Not allowed to proclaim the truest thing they could ever feel. Not in the way my parents could. Much less, vastly undeserving. Por Dios. We graduated from pre-school many moons ago. Why do we still live in that same pre-school? Bad posture, unnecessary sweating. Make room for the little ones, Pergamino!

At the risk of reducing myself to that beret-headed buffoon with the megaphone in one hand and a blank book in the other, I want to pick a fight. I want to drag people who are down with people (bad down) to the underneath of my car, with velocity and as little remorse as humanly possible. I want to not be nice to mean people and, in turn, become super mean. I want to lose focus and lash out at everyfuckingbody, allthefuckingtime. I want to swallow my life up in a fiendish appetite of pure hatred. For to tell them all I lived passionate and true. To tell them I became Che Guevara with a Mohammad complex. He wasn't a smart one, but he went loud.

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-89067264462842401882009-05-22T17:52:00.000-07:002009-05-22T18:04:17.531-07:00XII. So much love, goodness and bro-heat, thick enough to cut with Paul Bunyan's bloody axe. My dear friend, I wish you could have been there.

Mixing will occur within the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, all will be done before I leave for NYC. As I may have mentioned before (I can't remember a lot of anything), this Black Pig will serve as a "bocadillo"; a dark and juicy morsel of what is to come. The 4 songs that comprise the Black Pig will be recorded officially for the album later in the year. Yesterday's recording will be incorporated into a luvrly proposal package, which will (hopefully) attract a well-known producer, or that one label that does not believe in hoarding all creative control. Yesterday's Black Pig will not be released to the world. I apologize in advance, my friend.

After the 9-hour recording session, Leah and I came back home and ate a delicious fruit plate. Corwin came by and we all watched "The Holy Mountain". I was exhausted. I dozed off a couple of times (Corwin pointed out how quickly I slipped in and out of consciousness), and then I was alone.

Alone, yet truly grateful for these dark days.

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-26280663197504864892009-03-20T21:40:00.000-07:002009-03-20T22:24:24.137-07:00VII. A delicious bouquet of percussion, voices, accordions and one bass trombone. We rehearsed the "Black Pig Suite" for the first time. Actually, we got through 2 of the 4 songs in the suite: "Echo Round My Heart" and "The Re-Creator" (the latter is bleeding into another title, I am certain). At next week's rehearsal, we get more horns and more voices. And guitar. And bass. Possibly musical saw. Charles, can you pleeeeeeease bring your saw to next practice? Totes thanks.

Going back to NYC in about 3 weeks. Shit. I need to book my flight. Need to get the info to princessFrank, who wants to fly with me. On a plane. Gotta design posters. Gotta practice accordion. I'm rusty in the bellows, and so is my accordion.

From what I've been hearing, there will be an army of us in NYC: <a href="http://theblastingcompany.com/"target="_blank">The Blasting Company (3 members), <a href="http://myspace.com/harukuroi/"target="_blank">El-Haru Kuroi (3 members), <a href="http://myspace.com/masterslave/"target="_blank">princessFrank, <a href="http://myspace.com/soulconference/"target="_blank">Angel Hernandez, and Eva & Aurelia from <a href="http://myspace.com/aesings/"target="_blank">Æ. That's 11 of us. I suspect there will be more. And whatever sound we produce collectively will be my doe-eyed bride. We plan on doing venues and streets, a la <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/7930898@N02/sets/72157608065685894/"target="_blank">Killsonic last October. Four songs from Rattle Rattle, with as many musicians as necessary to make this mountain peak to the moon. This will help with securing a strong future for Rattle Rattle. Two more L.A. shows before then. NYC shows in April. UK in May? This week, I will know for sure.

In a couple of hours, Killsonic invades the East Hollywood ArtCycle. At the rate the dryer is going, something tells me I'm gonna be in soggy black tonight.

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4373273492895976947.post-40220008186393668072009-02-20T11:16:00.000-08:002009-02-20T11:17:18.981-08:00V. Both songs were written for accordions, vocal and musical saw, and they will (somehow) end up on Rattle Rattle. I will also be bangin' with the Holy Spirit in the grand debut of the Killsonic Women's Choir And Amplified Percussion Ensemble. Pretty stoked, in a totes way.

I found out last week that I am touring the South in September. UK, Paris and Berlin before then...but the South? THE FUCKIN' SOUTH! Apparently, this will be at the tail end of the second Killsonic invasion of NYC. Those who still have the Holy Spirit dancing fancies within us will recreate Sherman's march through Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana and other lands flooded by truth and molasses. I'm looking forward to passing out in some sort of barn.

Yesterday was VD. Jesse came over and we hung out for 5 hours, sketching, smoking, squirming. I did a no-no and played him the rough mix of the as-yet-unreleased Killsonic II album. Cranked it, smoked, sketched, squirmed. Well, Jesse squirmed. Should one listen to Killsonic in such a state? Only if you absolutely need to know what it's like to stick your __________ in a bear-trap. Mingus resurrects as a hydra that shits bricks all over the Himalayas. Spark it up!

Hope you had an emotionally-nurturing Valentine's Day, free of candy and shit.

Love,

DorianDWhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01609091673937224665noreply@blogger.com0
